MT5 Expert Advisor VIP Grid & Martingale

GoldTrap EA MT5

A recovery-based grid system built specifically for XAUUSD, this EA opens an initial position and then layers in additional orders if price moves against it, aiming to close the whole basket once gold retraces. The fixed session filter and configurable lot multiplier let traders tune exposure, but the martingale-style logic means drawdowns can escalate quickly when gold trends without a pullback.

Losses on this strategy have no upper bound

The vendor's own description mentions position-scaling logic that keeps a losing sequence open instead of closing it. A single losing sequence therefore has no defined worst case: a long enough move in one direction takes the account to zero. Systems like this can trade profitably for a long time before that happens, which is why an unbroken track record does not settle the question.

Description

Why GoldGrid Recovery Appeals and Worries

Most automated strategies for gold take a trend or breakout approach, entering once and riding a move. This system does the opposite. It starts with a small position, and when price moves against that trade, it adds larger positions at set distances. The idea is simple: a basket of trades has a blended entry much closer to the current market, so a partial retrace is enough to close everything at a net profit. That logic is attractive until gold refuses to retrace. A prolonged one-directional run turns a controlled recovery into an open-ended drawdown, which is exactly where the scepticism sets in.

Traders who have blown accounts on martingale systems will immediately recognise the pattern. The difference here is in the numbers. The initial lot is 0.01, recovery spacing is 180 points, and the multiplier is 1.5. Those defaults are modest compared to aggressive doubling grids. The maximum recovery level count can go as high as 35, which sounds dangerous, but a user can lower that to whatever a small account can sustain. The bundled session filter also prevents the EA from trading between 14:00 and 17:00 server time and outside 02:00 to 23:00, removing two of the thinner liquidity windows when gold can be erratic.

How the Basket Manages XAUUSD Exposure

The EA is designed around a single symbol, XAUUSD, and no other pairs are mentioned. That focus allows the parameters to be built around the typical point value and volatility profile of spot gold on a hedging account. The minimum deposit is low at $100, and leverage of 1:100 or higher is required, which suggests the developer intends this for small-balance accounts where a 0.01 initial lot still represents meaningful exposure.

The core settings are fixed in the default build but can be edited. The first trade opens with a 45-point take-profit and a 90-point trigger for the first recovery level. Once that level is hit, the system places another order with a 220-point take-profit and uses 180-point spacing between further recovery entries. Each subsequent position is 1.5 times the previous size, so the exposure grows geometrically until the whole basket is closed. In practical terms, a trader watching the chart would see several orders clustered around a falling gold price, with each new entry appearing deeper into the move.

The second parameter set governs how many times that can happen. By default the system allows up to 35 recovery levels, but a trader can set that to five or seven and dramatically reduce the worst-case exposure. The EA does not appear to use a stop loss on every individual trade. Instead, the whole basket is managed as a unit, which is standard for this kind of recovery logic but means a margin call is always possible if the drawdown exceeds account equity.

What the Trading Sessions Actually Filter

The vendor provides a fixed trading window: starting at 02:00, pausing at 14:00, resuming at 17:00, and ending at 23:00. Those are server hours, so a trader on a broker with a different GMT offset will see those windows shift. The pause between 14:00 and 17:00 corresponds to the overlap between London's afternoon and the start of New York trading, a period when gold spreads can widen and news spikes are common. By sitting out that block, the EA avoids adding new positions during the daily volatility spike, but it does not close existing baskets. If a basket is already open when the pause starts, the EA will still manage it, just not open fresh trades.

Installation, Configuration, and the Unspoken Limits

Because the source code is not included, this is a locked product. A buyer gets the compiled expert file and has to accept that the internal logic cannot be audited. The vendor lists the original version as the licence type, which means there is no decompile protection, but also no way to modify the core logic. Configuration is limited to the exposed inputs, which cover the lot multiplier, grid distance, take-profit levels, session times, and maximum recovery count.

For a trader used to editing open-source EAs, this is a constraint. For a trader who wants a plug-and-play system on MT5, it may not matter. The EA works on any timeframe, so there is no need to open a specific chart period. The vendor recommends a hedging account, which is available on many brokers offering MT5, and the minimum deposit of $100 is low enough to be accessible. That deposit figure should not be read as a safe amount for all the default settings, however. If the grid reaches ten or fifteen levels on a trending day, the margin requirement will be far larger than the initial $100.

Realistic Expectations for the Aggressive Recovery Approach

The marketing materials include MyFxBook statistics showing an 18.19% gain over one month, a 4.86% drawdown, and a 72% win rate over 1,243 trades. Those figures are presented as verified, but they cover a single month and a single account. A month is not a statistically meaningful period for a grid strategy. The system can produce many consecutive small wins and then give back a large portion in a single trend that lacks a retracement. The same applies to the live account screenshots with realized profits of $4,101 and $38,114: without knowing the starting balance, holding period, or maximum drawdown on those accounts, the numbers are hard to evaluate.

An experienced gold trader will recognise that the XAUUSD market tends to trend during risk-off events and range during quieter weeks. This EA is built for the ranging phase. During a calm market, the initial take-profit at 45 points will often be reached quickly, producing frequent small gains. When a central bank announcement or geopolitical shock hits, gold can move 500 to 1,000 points without giving the recovery grid a chance to close. That is the trade-off the system asks for, and it is the first thing to test on a demo account before committing real money.

Frequently asked questions

Is the source code included with GoldTrap EA MT5?

No. The vendor lists the licence as the original version without source code, so you receive a compiled .ex5 file that runs on MT5 but cannot be edited or audited.

What is the maximum number of recovery levels?

The default setting allows up to 35 martingale levels, but this is a configurable input. Lowering it to a smaller number, such as five or ten, will reduce the maximum size of the basket and the worst-case margin requirement.

Does the EA have a stop loss on individual trades?

The available description does not mention individual stop losses. The system manages the entire basket as a unit and closes everything when the net profit target is reached, so a single trade may remain open as long as the overall basket is in drawdown.

Can GoldTrap EA MT5 run on a netting account?

No. The vendor specifies a hedging account type, which is required for the multiple opposite and same-direction positions that the grid system relies on.

Why does the EA pause trading from 14:00 to 17:00?

That window covers the late London session and the start of New York trading, when gold often sees sharp news-driven spikes. The pause prevents the system from opening new recovery positions during that volatile period, though existing baskets are still monitored.
